FOME Alliance officially established as a nonprofit organization in Belgium

The Future of Management Education (FOME) Alliance has reached an important milestone in its development: it is now officially established as a nonprofit organization and registered in Belgium.

This new legal status marks the culmination of more than two years of work and reflects the alliance’s continued evolution from an informal network into a structured and enduring international collaboration. The initial deed was signed by a notary in Belgium on December 9, just ahead of the alliance’s annual conference, and subsequently submitted for royal approval.

“Becoming a nonprofit organization represents a significant step forward for FOME,” said Harald Øverby, Special Advisor AI & Technology and Chair of the FOME Alliance, BI Norwegian Business School. “It enables the alliance to manage formal and administrative matters independently and signals a transition from what began as a collaborative group into a formal organization with a clear governance structure and long-term vision.”

Under this new structure, FOME will be governed at the highest level by a “general meeting” composed of the alliance’s four full members: LUISS, Vlerick Business School, EDHEC Business School, and BI Norwegian Business School. These institutions will also form the FOME board. Other participating institutions will continue to play an active role as associated members, with the alliance maintaining its commitment to inclusive, democratic, and collaborative ways of working that have defined it since its founding in 2018. The management committee, together with the chair and the alliance Manager, will oversee the day-to-day operations of the alliance and support the preparation of formal governance meetings.

This milestone strengthens FOME’s ability to deliver on its mission: advancing innovation and collaboration in management education across its international network. With a more robust institutional foundation in place, the alliance is well positioned to expand its activities, deepen partnerships, and increase its impact in the years ahead.
